My Work

Practical solutions built around real work.

These project narratives show the problem, Derrek’s contribution, what was built and the capability demonstrated. They do not present fabricated screenshots, client results or testimonials.

Business operations

Developed during employment

Budgeting and operational scoping workflows

01

Operational problem

Project information can arrive as notes, assumptions, scope details and review comments before it is ready to become a budget or operational plan.

Derrek’s contribution

Derrek helped develop and refine workflow software during employment, contributing to structured review steps, exports and administrative automations.

What was built

Structured intake, review steps, budget-preparation logic, working exports and administrative automations around operational decisions.

Input → review → output

Input: scope details and assumptions. Review: users check categories, quantities and exceptions. Output: organized budget information and exportable working records.

Capability demonstrated

Turning messy operational information into a structured process with review points, traceable decisions and practical outputs.

How it translates

The same pattern applies when a business needs better intake, quoting support, document preparation, approval steps or internal visibility.

Current status

Developed during employment and included here as career experience, not as an independently owned Smoke Signal product.

Information filtering

Operational notifications and information filtering

02

Operational problem

Information streams can be noisy and inconsistent, making it hard for a business to notice the items that deserve attention.

Derrek’s contribution

Derrek designed the concept, filtering approach and product direction as part of Smoke Signal Intelligence product development.

What was built

Filtering rules, notification structure and review-oriented workflows for turning noisy information into timely alerts.

Input → review → output

Input: available public activity and rules. Review: filtering logic separates relevant items from noise. Output: a concise notification that a person can evaluate.

Capability demonstrated

Signal detection, rule design, alert preparation and workflow design for time-sensitive information.

How it translates

The capability is useful anywhere a business needs to separate important updates, exceptions or follow-ups from routine noise.

Current status

Original product project showing information filtering and notification design.

BuckPattern

03

Operational problem

Outdoor planning can involve mixed information: images, notes, weather, terrain, locations and decisions that are hard to compare when scattered.

Derrek’s contribution

Derrek built BuckPattern independently under Smoke Signal Intelligence LLC.

What was built

A hunting-focused product that organizes trail-camera information, terrain context and field observations into a clearer workflow.

Input → review → output

Input: user-supplied observations and supporting information. Review: the user compares patterns and context. Output: a more organized plan for the next decision.

Capability demonstrated

Organizing mixed information and designing a usable workflow around a real activity.

How it translates

The same skill transfers to business workflows with messy notes, files, photos, locations, status updates and follow-ups.

Current status

Independent product in development.
